We inspire the best in students as they strive to reach their fullest potential. Nouvel believes in educating the whole student–mind, body & soul–in a faith-based school environment. We are a regional comprehensive high school that is small enough to feel connected, yet big enough to offer countless opportunities for growth and success through areas such as AP courses, STEM classes, clubs, retreats, sports, the arts, and more.

At Nouvel, a challenging curriculum along with the efforts of committed educators and involved parents combine to fuel academic success, as marked by our 100% graduation rate. Scholarly achievements include National Merit Scholar recognition, excellent AP pass rates, and being selected as one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools by the Catholic High School Honor Roll. The number of scholarships our students earn, combined with their outstanding preparation for college and beyond helps to make a Nouvel education an unparalleled investment.

Nouvel Catholic Central Schools is excited to announce that Mrs. Elizabeth “Betsy” Hurd will be the Grand Marshal of our Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 22, 2017. The parade starts at 4:30 p.m., leaving from the Knights of Columbus on Shattuck west to Wieneke. Betsy will be joined by her husband Tony and their son Nick at the parade.

Betsy and Tony contributed so much to the Catholic Mission in the Saginaw Diocese, both at Church and School. They were graduates of Ss. Peter and Paul in 1974. Betsy was a Teacher and Coach at St. Mary’s Cathedral High School for two years early in her career. She and her husband Tony taught and coached for several years in Louisiana before returning to the Saginaw area where Betsy continued teaching and coaching  at both Buena Vista High School and the Saginaw Public School System. Betsy retired from education in 2016. Their children Dan, Nick, Sara and Tony were all graduates of Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Betsy worked tirelessly in the Athletic Booster’s for years (‘91-’04) both at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary and NCCHS. She provided a special kind of leadership and enthusiasm for Catholic education for many, many years.

In speaking to Betsy recently, she shared that “I have always believed deeply in Catholic education because it reinforced what I was trying to teach my children at home, every day. For Tony and I, getting involved and being active in the lives of our family and the lives of many other wonderful families was very important. We wanted our kids to have a positive, faith based education”. In many ways, Betsy was the consummate teacher, not only for her children, but touched the lives of many others.

Betsy wanted to thank the many, many people who have offered prayers, love, support and encouragement as she battles the health challenges that she is experiencing. She indicated that she is feeling good and is getting some positive results.

Betsy is a remarkable person. It is an honor for the entire Nouvel Catholic Central Community to have Betsy and her family to lead our Homecoming Parade. If you get an opportunity, please consider coming out to our Homecoming Parade and supporting Betsy and our kids. Hope to see you there.
